From a very young age I understood that fantasy was one of my favorite genres in cinema. Later I realized that the same applied also for books. Fantasy is a genre that takes the mind and the soul of the human being and puts them in another dimension. A more ethereal, eerie, fantasizing dimension. And that is a gift of art for the human being. It's bliss to been able to travel from our fucked up world to a universe filled with adventure and inner beauty. And that's exactly what the film Willow will do to you. Willow is a most exciting journey through dwarves, sorcerers, fighters. heroes, anti-heroes and common folk turned heroic. The heart of that movie is as big as a mountain and the thrill that it produces to the viewer is such that you want to take out the DVD and eat it with your bare hands.
Willow might be for some people a dated, superficial movie. I carry a totally different opinion. Willow is from the movies that apart from being a unique selection for children and adolescence, it's also a great movie for older dudes. Its charm, its adventurous nature, its deeply human agenda and its great moments make the journey a truly unforgettable one. Willow is from the films that follow me since the day that it came out in theaters in 1988 till now that I'm 45 years old. I love the movie and have a special place in my heart for it. The excitement and touching moments that it has make me smile every time I think of Willow. It's from the movies that no matter how much will age they will still carry a specific, special allure for me.
