Even Cowgirls Get The Blues (Gus Van Sant, 1993)

This is arguably the most different and idiosyncratic movie made by Gus Van Sant. Although Gus Van Sant is famous for making idiosyncratic movies, that film over here surpasses them all by being the most crazy and insane film of his career. Driven by a pathos for the weird and bizarre, Even Cowgirls Get The Blues is an extremely wild ride among weirdos and freaks who are here to entertain you and maybe even more than that guide you to their world and universe. A film hard to be put in words it balances between a comedy and a drama constantly like these two are inceparable and there is big bond connecting them, the film has a touch that of a modern fairy tale and yet you can erase the fairy tale part and keep only the modern. Even Cowgirls Get The Blues is a truly unique movie, horribly underrated and forgotten, that has the characteristic of taking the spectator to a very special place, a place where only movies can imagine, with bright colored synthesis and an eccentric plot. It's really sad that Gus Van Sant never, after that movie, tried something similar, he is really good at it. The comedic element seems to be working pretty awesomely with him. Maybe a film not for all tastes, but most certainly a movie that celebrates the different, the odd, the one that we are not used in seeing. A hidden gem ready to be explored all over from the beginning again.
