Beverly Hills Cop II (Tony Scott, 1987)

Beverly Hills Cop II might not be the astounding action comedy with the great jokes, the penetrating action scenes and the imaginative story. No it certainly isn't that. But Beverly Hills Cop II is and stays honest in delivering an entertaining movie with some pretty funny moments, a mysterious and charming female villain and some great shooting scenes just for the kicks. Beverly Hills Cop II is a film that aims not too high, not to a big scale, not to really win a big audience and have people talking about this movie. It's mostly a rather B side of action movies and a B side of comedy films. The fact that it combines both action and comedy makes it certainly much more appealing to the eye and more than that makes it a movie that is here to double the enjoynment and the fun. Coming from the golden age of the 80s when movies were a big event coming to the cinema, Beverly Hills Cop II is what you call a movie straightly and proudly for popcorn consumption. And that is definitely a good attribute, there is nothing wrong with straightforward popcorn movies. The problem begins when popcorn movies try to be something bigger than that. Beverly Hills Cop II doesn't even try to be something bigger, it is perfectly satisfied with what it offers. And truth says that it offers a catchy story, a brilliant Eddie Murphy and an atmosphere that speaks of movies that are here to keep us company and guide us through safe road to the one and only action comedy's goal of pure entertainment. So let your senses guide you towards Beverly Hills Cop II because the time that you are going to spend with it, will be a time remembered as time fully enjoyed. A playful action piece.
